On 9 October in London, the community of the Polish University Abroad (PUNO) gathered for the ceremonial inauguration of the new academic year.
The event provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of scholarship, education, and the preservation of Polish cultural heritage beyond the borders of Poland.
A particularly significant moment of the ceremony was the conferral of the honorary doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) of PUNO upon Professor Ewa Lewandowska-Tarasiuk, in recognition of her outstanding academic, educational, and social contributions.
The laureate also delivered the inaugural lecture entitled “The Past Is Today, Only a Little Further Away. The Words of Cyprian Kamil Norwid in Our Minds and Hearts.”
The beginning of this academic year precedes the Year of Science 2027, established by the Polish Parliament, which commemorates the importance of Polish scientific achievements and the legacy of Maria Skłodowska-Curie on the 160th anniversary of her birth.
For PUNO, which has supported the development of Polish scholarship and fostered links between academic communities in Poland and abroad for decades, this is an especially meaningful initiative.
We once again extend our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Ewa Lewandowska-Tarasiuk.
We wish the entire PUNO community a successful, inspiring, and rewarding 2026/2027 academic year!
